Forthcoming Event

Seminar to Commemorate World Trauma Day
on the 17th of October 2007

13 years After Democracy: Understanding the Face of Traumatic Stress in South Africa and its implication for interventions with victims of violence

After 13 years of Democracy, the South African landscape has seen many political, social and developmental changes. Violence has increasingly become one of the dominant features of this changing landscape. As a result, the number of traumatised individuals has increased and the nature of trauma has changed. Interventions with these individuals have been taken up by many resulting in the expansion of the sector in the past decade. It has become clear that the need for sharing of knowledge and experiences among the sector is vital if we are to respond to the needs of victims of violence in effective and ethical ways. In commemoration of World Trauma Day the Trauma and Transition Programme (CSVR) will bring together service providers, researchers and policy makers to consider the current trauma landscape and its influence on our interventions. The World Trauma Day Seminar will provide all those present with an opportunity to learn about and discuss new and effective ways of understanding and treating victims of violence within the current South Africa.

The Trauma and Transition Programme (TTP) of CSVR would like to invite you to a stimulating and challenging seminar on the 17th October 2007. This is part of initiatives to commemorate World Trauma Day. The seminar is targeted for service providers and policy makers working in the field of traumatic stress and victim empowerment. It is aimed at providing a platform for stimulating intellectual debates about the current context of South Africa in relation to interventions for survivors of violence. Please find attached an outline of the proposed programme.

Join us for an exciting and informative day!
