Memory and Dispossession

 
Constitution Hill, Jewish Voices and The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation invite you to a panel discussion on memory, liberation and oppression in South Africa and Israel-Palestine

Speakers:
Louise Bethlehem is an expatriate-South African academic, activist and lecturer at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She is affiliated to the activist organization, Zochrot, and has a specific research interest in questions of memorialisation and spatial regimes.

Ereshnee Naidu is Senior Educationalist and researcher at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation. Her research focus is on the role of memorialisation and memory in post conflict transitional justice societies. She has developed a model and strategies for the empowerment of marginalised groups through memorialisation processes.

Discussant:
Noor Nieftagodien is a Senior lecturer in History (Middle East and Urban History) and co-ordinator of Development Studies. He is currently writing a history of Alexandra township.

Chairperson:
Oupa Makhalemele is a researcher at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation. His work focuses on reparations as well as memorialisation.
