Dr. Solomon Ayele Dersso Joins the CSVR Board

The CSVR Board of Directors welcomes Dr Solomon Ayele Dersso to the CSVR Board. Dr Dersso joined the Board of Directors of the CSVR from 1 October 2021. The Board is delighted to work with Dr Dersso in this capacity. Dr Dersso comes with a wealth of experience and published work in the human rights, international criminal law, constitutionalism and democratic governance, peace and security and transitional justice fields.

Amongst his many achievements, Dr Dersso is the current Chairperson and a Commissioner of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, the African Union's premier human rights body. Dr Dersso is also the International Journal of Transitional Justice (IJTJ)'s Editorial Board member. In the area of Transitional Justice, he serves the focal point of the African Commission on Transitional Justice and Human Rights in Africa and has led the drafting of the final draft of the AU TJ Policy. He is a non-faculty Assistant Professor of Human Rights at the School of Law and Governance Studies, Addis Ababa University and Dr Dersso heads Amani Africa Media and Research Services, a policy research and consulting think tank in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Dr Dersso received LLB from the School of Law, Addis Ababa University, LLM Degree from Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria and PhD Degree from School of Law, University of Witwatersrand.

The Board looks forward to work with Dr Dersso and has no doubt that his contribution, skills and expertise will further inspire the success of CSVR and will contribute to the collective goal of taking the work of CSVR to greater heights.
