The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) is a non-governmental organisation which envisions societies that are peaceful, equal and free from violence. CSVR aims to understand and prevent violence, heal its effects and build sustainable peace at community, national and regional levels. We do this through collaboration with and learning from the lived and diverse experiences of communities affected by violence and conflict to inform innovative interventions, generate knowledge, shape public discourse, influence policy, hold States accountable and promote gender equality, social cohesion, and active citizenship.
CSVR seeks to appoint a Research Specialist, this position will entail a two-year contract, renewable dependent on funding. The successful candidate will be part of the CSVR’s Research Team, with a particular focus on Transitional Justice.
- Generates knowledge that shapes public discourse, improves practices and influence decision and policy makers at national and continental and international level.
- Provides contribution in the development of strategy and approaches for CSVR Research.
- Design and perform research that contributes to policy and practice-relevant knowledge creation.
- Fundraising for the research Programme and secure substantiative funding for Transitional Justice projects.
- Manage Transitional Justice research projects.
- Position CSVR in strategic partnerships with other leading research institutions nationally, continentally, and internationally
- Contribute to M&E development and to the mainstreaming of gender within area of expertise.
- At least a Master’s Degree or equivalent, preferably a PhD.
- At least 7 years’ research experience dealing with a particular focus on Transitional Justice.
- Experience in the non-governmental sector
- At least 3 years project management experience of research projects
- Substantial publication record (at least 5 journal articles / book chapters) in international
- Journals or recognised publishers
- Recognised expert in Transitional Justice (e.g. reviews for journals, invitations to panels/committees and media profile)
- Fundraising experience – has written successful funding proposals for grants to at least three
- funders and managed donor relations
- Direct policy and/or intervention engagement through presentation of research findings
- Experience with editing books or journals is an added advantage
