This report forms part of a previous research project of the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) aimed at a comprehensive analysis of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) process in South Africa. This study concentrates on conflict resolution work done at the local level, mainly in disadvantaged communities throughout the greater Cape Town metropolitan area. It focuses on the approach of The Quaker Peace Centre (QPC), which is characterised by direct intervention through mediation, empowerment through mediation training, and the establishment of sustainable structures in the communities that can provide effective conflict resolution in the future.
