The following report was a submission to the two committees, the Portfolio Committee on Safety and Security as well as the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, regarding the National Prosecuting Authority and South African Police Service (SAPS) Amendment Bills. In essence the bills provide for the closure of the Directorate of Special Operations (DSO), an investigative unit located within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The SAPS Amendment Bill provides that investigators from the DSO are to be selectively incorporated into a newly established Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation within the South African Police Service (SAPS) which will also incorporate investigators from SAPS Organized Crime units.
