TRAINING MANUAL FOR SAPS ON GBV RESPONSE

This comprehensive training manual is designed to equip members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) with the legal, procedural, and ethical tools required to respond effectively to gender-based violence (GBV). Rooted in South Africa's legislative reforms and aligned with international human rights standards, the manual emphasises a trauma-informed, survivor-centred approach to policing.

Covering key topics such as consent, protection orders, the National Register for Sex Offenders, and best practices for victim support, this manual seeks to close the gap between policy and practice. It also highlights the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration and ethical conduct in improving police responses to GBV.

By building knowledge, enhancing investigative practices, and prioritising dignity and care for victims/survivors, SAPS officers can contribute meaningfully to a safer, more just society.
