Understanding consent is vital in the fight against sexual- and gender-based violence (SGBV) in South Africa, a country which continues to suffer under the weight of GBV rates that have reached pandemic proportions. Our fact sheet, Understanding Consent & Your Rights, empowers individual with knowledge about clear, voluntary, and informed consent to ensure that all sexual activity is based on mutual agreement, safety, and respect. It highlights key principles, including the right to withdraw consent at any time, the importance of affirmative and ongoing agreement, and where to seek support if rights have been violated. By promoting awareness and respect for human dignity and the right to bodily autonomy, we aim to foster safer communities and combat GBV effectively.
FACT SHEET UNDERSTANDING CONSENT & YOUR RIGHTS (1)CSVR is a multi-disciplinary institute that seeks to understand and prevent violence, heal its effects and build sustainable peace at the community, national and regional levels.
