Why Does South Africa Have Such High Rates of Violent Crime?

In February 2007 the Minister of Safety and Security contracted the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation to carry out a study on the violent nature of crime in South Africa. CSVR was required to produce six reports and following the final report presentation to then minister of Safety and Security, Mr. Nathi Mthetwa CSVR  was tasked with providing the following supplementary report addressing the question of what makes levels of violent crime in South Africa so high and a comparative analysis to other nations.
